Except as a spread on bread, it can be used as a spicy sauce. Ingredients: 1 large onion or 2 small, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, teaspoon of turmeric, teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon cumin, tablespoon of fresh or dried leaves teaspoon oregano, ½ teaspoon of grated ginger or a pinch of dried ginger, one portion of peeled tomatoes, 250 ml of water, 150g red lentils, salt and freshly ground pepper. Method of preparation: Peel the onion and chop in minor ways and sauté it in olive oil. Sprinkle the spices and simmer briefly, just long enough to let the smell of spices. Add tomato sauce, water and lentils. Cook for 15 minutes over medium heat. Add salt and pepper to taste, mix well – serve warm as a sauce with pasta, and cold as a dip for tortilla chips or spread on bread.
